Q: What styles of photography do you offer?
A: We offer lifestyle and documentary style storytelling for family sessions. Less “look at the camera and smile,” and more LIFE in the style.
Q: Why does the site also mention writing as part of your offerings? I don’t see anything in the packages about writing.
A: Stay tuned.
Q: When are you available?
A: We keep our schedule somewhat flexible. You can view our calendar HERE (soon). We are almost always closed Sundays and Mondays, and we are most often out in the field (on sessions) on weekends. We try to take care of all admin work (answering emails, calls, etc.) throughout, and we work on our client galleries all week. If you reach out to us on our days off, we will send a personal response as soon as we are back in the office. (Note: Some actions, like scheduling and deposit invoices, are set to automatically work.)
Q: Will you help us prepare for our session?
A: Yes yes yes! In fact, it is now part of the package that we will meet and prepare for your session via Zoom (or other video options). We want to have fun and I don’t want YOU to stress — before, during, or after! Once you are fully booked (on my calendar and deposit paid), we will plan to meet soon before your session via video conferencing. I am doing this now to ensure we have all met ahead of time (for comfort AND safety), and to properly prepare you (and myself) for our time together. This is both a meet-and-greet and a time to answer all your questions. This meeting should take place at least 2 weeks before your session.
Q: What happens if our family is sick the day of our session?
A: We will reschedule. Rescheduling means letting me know as soon as you are concerned you may need to do so, not simply not showing up. Your retainer is moved and you are not penalized if you have communicated. However, rescheduling is not the same as canceling. A cancelation or no-show means your retainer will not be returned or applied to a future session. We strongly encourage communication and rescheduling.
Q: What if my children won’t cooperate?
A: Same as the previous. We will reschedule. The kiddos — especially babies and toddlers — can set the whole mood and change the outcome. If they are not in the best place during the session and we aren’t making progress, I’ll likely call it and we will try again as soon as possible, according to both schedules. However, since our time together is less posing and more life, I can be patient to see if a change in environment, getting fed, or doing something different will help. I know our time is limited on both sides, so we will give it our best before even discussing rescheduling. There are no penalties and no further fees will be due, but also no refunds will be issued if you don’t reschedule. If I feel we have captured lots of memories before the non-cooperation begins, we will simply end early. Your session is more about the outcome of film and portraits than the time we spend capturing them.
Q: How many people can I bring to my family session?
A: I used to be open to extended family sessions, but given the nature of how my art is showing up now, that doesn’t work the same way. Those previous extended family sessions felt too much like “assembly line” rushing to get everyone taken care of. I am slowing down now, quality over quantity, and that applies to extended families, too.
Q: How far do you travel?
A: I now only travel in the Colorado Springs area. I define this area as within El Paso County. Sometimes along the edges of Douglas County. And as a former resident of Teller County, I will sometimes accept sessions in the Woodland Park area, depending on the time of year.
Q: Do you ever have sales?
A: No, I stopped having sales. Sometimes I have an introductory price offering for new services, but sales have never served me well. I understand cost is a factor for many and I may be outside of your budget, and that’s OK. There are wonderful photographers available for every budget.
Q: What if I really only need/want a few pictures?
A: I don’t offer mini-sessions.
Q: What kind of events do you photograph?
A: We do not currently accept any event-type sessions including elopements, birthday parties, weddings, birth of a child, adoption, etc. We do not accept any requests that are time-sensitive.
